3. A GREAT ROUTEWhether you've signed up for the Urban route or the longer Challenge Loop, you're in for a real treat. All riders will start at the Lucky Lab and head along the waterfront to REI in northwest. After a yummy rest stop, the ride splits. Challenge Loop riders will begin their ascent over the West Hills en route to REI Hillsboro. The rest of the riders will continue on their urban course to the Community Cycling Center, the Bike Gallery on Sandy, and back to the Lucky Lab. Along the way you'll cruise across the river, wind along the lovely Alameda Ridge, and traverse quiet residential streets in NE and SE Portland. For Challenge Loop riders, you've got a delightful route through the West Hills. When you return to Portland, you'll join in on the Urban route for a total of nearly 45 miles. After all that riding, you're going to love that made-from-scratch hot soup goodness that Laughing Planet Cafe is bringing to the finish line party. 4. TIPSWe want to make sure you have a great ride, so here are some suggestions and reminders:* HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. * Riders are released in waves. Challenge Loop riders are released starting at 9:00 am. Urban course riders are released from 10:00-10:45 am. Not a morning person? No problem! Take your time getting to the start line. * Parking is limited to the side streets, so we recommend you carpool, bike, get a ride or take transit. The Lucky Lab is served by the #4 and #14 buses. Bike parking is free and available at the finish line. 6. THE WEATHER REPORT Historically, Oregon's worst weather occurs at this time of year. Our resident meteorologist, the Icy Monkey, reports that the coldest temperature ever recorded was -54 degrees in 1933. This is also the time when the Great Flood of 1996 occurred and the Willamette River rose over 10 feet.
