1. WELCOME TO A WINTER RIDE

Welcome to the Worst Day of the Year Ride! This year is going to be better than ever, and we look forward to seeing you there.  We are 50% filled up already and we expect to sell out - so register today!

When the weather turns sour, you know it's time to pull your bike out of the garage and join 2,000 other cyclists for a jaunt around Portland!  This is a perfect ride for convincing friends and family to brave the elements and join you for the afternoon.

On top of all the yummy food and hot drinks along the way, you can feel good about supporting a great cause - the Community Cycling Center. A portion of the proceeds will benefit their bicycle safety programs for low-income youth.

IN THIS ISSUE:

1. A winter ride

2. A sustainable feast

3. ORbike member discount

4. Costume contest

5. In-store registration closes soon

6. The weather report

2. A SUSTAINABLE FEAST!

This is the year of sustainability and we're committed to making the Worst Day of the Year Ride as environmentally responsible as possible - starting with your belly!  We'll keep you warm and nourished at every turn and it all kicks off with decadent doughnuts and locally-roasted Nossa Familia Coffee at the start line.  Company owner (and avid cyclist) Augusto Dias grew up on a coffee farm in Brazil and now imports his family's coffee to Portland where it is freshly roasted.

Along the route you'll enjoy organic fruit from Pioneer Organics, delicious small-batch made Dragon Fly Chai, warm cider, hot chocolate, bagels, cookies and more.

But don't fill up too much because waiting for you at the finish line will be a sustainable feast freshly-prepared by Laughing Planet Cafe, experts in wholesome yumminess.  They're serving up made-from-scratch local and organic soups - potato corn chowder and veggie chili - as well as warm garlicky focaccia bread.

But the responsibility doesn't stop there. We're using all reusable dishes at the finish line, compostable cups and napkins and minimizing our impact on the landfill.  And you can do your part - ride your bike to the start line!

3. ORBIKE MEMBER DISOUNTS

This is an ORbike member event. If you're an ORbike member, you'll receive $5 off when you register online and as a VIP you'll be treated to a refreshing beer or soda at the finish line party. If you're not an ORbike member, you can sign up online (and get more information) on the ORbike website.

4. COSTUME CONTEST

Don't forget to come in costume! We'll be awarding prizes to the best outfits.  Decorated bikes, wigs over helmets, robot costumes... we want to see it all!  We're shooting the official Worst Day of the Year Ride video - so strut your stuff for our camera crew!

But if you accidentally leave your cape behind, Roots Realty will be there to help.  They're hosting the Decoration Station where you can gussy up yourself and your bike.  After all, it wouldn't be a quirky urban ride without a little flair!

Roots Realty wants to nurture a community that is beautiful, artistically elegant, alive, fun and flourishing. That's why they support Worst Day of the Year Ride. They offer eco-design consulting to bring out the green potential that lies in Portland's homes, properties, and neighborhoods.  If you're considering buying or selling a home, make sure to speak with David Todd of Roots Realty at the event for the holistic home and community connection.

6. THE WEATHER REPORT

So far, the skies are looking nice and clear for February 10th. Our resident meteorologist, the Icy Monkey, is predicting mild weather, no rain and sunny skies. Hmmm, that sounds a lot like the weather report for the last five years.

Well, if the weather is anything like it has been lately, it's safe to say you just can't tell if it will be flooding or shining.
